In 1984 I was running one of the busiest string repair businesses in Australia, building guitars and mandolins, playing in various bands and generally trying to do too much. We used to use hundreds of guitar strings. We were tired of buying and discarding unnecessary packaging, let alone paying too much for strings from importers and distributors.
Whilst travelling in the U.S.A. I established a relationship with a very fine string manufacturer who allowed me to buy unpackaged bulk strings in very large quantities. These acoustic, electric, classical and bass strings have been a great help to my instrument making, repair and performing over the years and the range I keep continues to grow. Many musicians and repair shops all over the country now use these strings.
As there's no packaging with them storage has to be considered. In my shop and in many others they are stored straight in PVC or cardboard tubes. For musicians I designed the Stringstash (TM) a heavy duty wallet with separate pockets for string gauges, picks, slides, capos, etc. as well as some loops to hold string winder, cutters- whatever.
Guitar makers and repairers are encouraged to enquire about wholesale prices for larger quantities and also about our supplies of guitar woods and Baggs instrument pickups and preamplifiers.
