This long-necked, carved top design for the bouzouki was first established by Sefan Sobell, a very fine British luthier. With my long experience of building carved top mandolins I have designed a bouzouki with great strength and stability of the all important neck joint and also a very finely graduated sensitive carved top.
The picture below is one such carved top bouzouki made from Alaskan Spruce and Rosewood from South America. The scale length is long, but not the longest I use at 650mm. The tuners are open geared 700 series from Gotoh, They are excellent.
There is a film transducer built into the wood inside the top. The sound of the pickup is rich and natural, but not as good as the sound of the instrument itself. This bouzouki rocks! Click on the picture for another view.
