The Hawaiian ukes I like best are soprano Kumales. Some have an arched back, and they have a real pulse or “throb” to their sound. In making this prototype for a friend I used the arching technique I use in my CC mandolins, learnt from Graham McDonald. You can see the arch in the photos below.

Chazuke back

Note also the spotted Jarrah in the neck. This feature occurs in Jarrah grown near a good water supply. The wood is generally lighter and more stable than other Jarrah.  This uke is finished with my wax finish - best for sound.
