This cutaway model 5 has some unusual features. At the owner’s request the back, sides and bridge are South American Rosewoods, Brazillian and Honduras. The top is Englemann Spruce. The guitar is French polished in Kusmi Golden Seedlac. The figured Brown Mallet fingerboard and bridge are quite wide for fingerstyle playing and the scale length is short at 630mm.
This overall combination gives a very responsive “old-timey” blues sound. The seedlac finish is of great help with that sound, but will not suit all players as it is more easily scratched than lacquer. The owner of this guitar will be using skin only - not even fingernails - so the extra sensitivity enabled by the finish will help a great deal and should not suffer excessive wear.
The mosaic rosette is my own “Wave” pattern. To see the rosette a little closer click here.
