NYLON STRING GUITARS

I build traditional classicals, using a Fleta - style outline. They are built in a variety of rosewoods with spruce tops braced to a Hauser - style 7 fan pattern or cedar tops braced to a Fleta - style 9 fan pattern. I am also bracing tops in a Rodriguez pattern. Flamencos are built in spruce after a traditional model. Various finish options are available, with catalysed synthetic, French polished or my own wax formula for the tops. All of my Spanish style guitars have a longitudinal cylindrical arch to the top and a spherical arch to the back, enabling lighter bracing and graduation. As with steel string guitars, some Australian woods make excellent substitutes for the traditional back and side woods.

This is a Hauser pattern German Spruce and Indian Rosewood classical guitar. It is finished differently to most guitars. It has been sealed in preparation for french polish, then waxed with a Carnauba wax in pure turpentine polish. This has the least inhibition of sound of any finish and is easily maintained. It is not as shiny as traditional polish, however. To see more detail please click on the picture.

This one is a Fleta pattern Red Cedar and Brazillian Rosewood guitar. The cylindrcal arch in the top and the hard Brazillian Rosewood give this a brighter, more nasal sound than one usually hears in Cedar topped guitars in this country. It projects very well. The finish is French Polished Shellac. To see more detail please click on the picture.

This third model is another fan braced pattern based on Tom Blackshear’s drawings of Rodriguez designs. The guitar pictured has a European Spruce top and South East Asian Rosewood back and sides. It is finished in Seedlac French Polish. The sound is rich and strong with a great dynamic range and projection. For more detail please click on the picture.
